Why your mind won’t Switch Off
Have you ever felt like your mind just won’t stop? You’re trying to relax, fall asleep or enjoy your day, but your thoughts are jumping from one thing to another:
What if something goes wrong? Did I say the wrong thing? What do I need to do tomorrow? Why did they say that? What if…?
This is sometimes described as the “monkey brain” or “monkey mind” a useful way of describing a mind that feels busy, restless and constantly jumping from thought to thought.
And the more we try to tell ourselves to stop thinking, the louder those thoughts can sometimes seem.
Why does our brain do this?
Our brains are designed to notice potential problems. Thousands of years ago, being alert to danger was incredibly important for survival. Our ancestors needed to notice movement, sounds and changes in their surroundings quickly.
Today, most of us aren't watching for predators — but that protective part of the brain is still there.
Instead, it might react to:
Work pressures
Family responsibilities
Money worries
Relationships
Health concerns
Social situations
Things we need to remember
Uncertainty about the future
The brain can start scanning for problems even when there isn't anything we need to deal with right now.
When your brain takes over
Imagine a monkey swinging from branch to branch. One thought appears…Then another…Then another…
Before you know it, something that started as a tiny concern has turned into an entire imaginary scenario.
You might begin with: “I have a busy day tomorrow.”
Then your mind jumps to: “What if I don't get everything done?”
Then: “I'm already exhausted.”
Then: “I won't sleep tonight.”
And suddenly you're lying awake worrying about the fact that you're worrying!
The original thought wasn't necessarily the problem. It was where the mind travelled afterwards.
Your thoughts aren't always facts
One of the most powerful things we can learn is that having a thought doesn't make it true. Your mind can create hundreds of possibilities every day. Some are useful. Some are realistic. Some are simply your brain trying to predict and prepare.
Rather than automatically following every thought, we can begin to notice it.
“There's my mind trying to work everything out again.”
That small moment of awareness can create some distance between you and the thought.
Calming
The aim isn't to completely empty your mind. Instead, it's about teaching your mind that it doesn't need to respond to every thought that appears.
Sometimes something as simple as bringing your attention back to the present moment can help.
Notice your breathing. Feel your feet on the floor. Listen to the sounds around you. Notice what you can see.
Remind yourself:
“I don't need to solve everything right now.”
Every time you gently bring your attention back to the present, you're practising a different response.
Where Hypnotherapy can help
Hypnotherapy can be particularly helpful for people who describe themselves as overthinkers or who find it difficult to mentally switch off.
During hypnosis, we can work with both the conscious and subconscious patterns behind our responses.
Rather than fighting thoughts, we can begin encouraging the mind towards feelings of calm, safety and control.
Over time, the mind can learn that it doesn't always need to analyse, predict or prepare.
Sometimes it can simply be.
Your mind is incredibly good at creating stories, but you get to decide which ones deserve your attention.
The next time you notice your thoughts swinging from branch to branch, try not to battle with them.
Notice them. Acknowledge them.
Then gently bring yourself back to where you are right now.
Because sometimes the most helpful message we can give our busy mind is: “Nothing needs to be worked out in this moment. I can simply be here.”
If overthinking, worrying or finding it difficult to switch off is affecting your everyday life, Hypnotherapy can help you develop calmer patterns of thinking and responding.
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy can help to develop practical skills for managing life's challenges.
Sessions are tailored to the individual and focus on teaching healthy coping strategies for times when life feels overwhelming, stressful or emotionally distressing. By combining evidence-based cognitive behavioural techniques with Hypnotherapy, I help people understand their thoughts and emotions, build confidence, strengthen resilience, develop a positive sense of self-worth and learn lifelong tools to navigate anxiety, setbacks and everyday pressures.
My aim is to provide a safe, supportive space where young people feel heard, understood and empowered to believe in themselves and their ability to thrive.
Hypnotherapy can be a valuable complementary approach. It can help people manage stress and anxiety, improve sleep, build confidence, develop healthier coping strategies and feel more in control of their emotional wellbeing.
Every child deserves the opportunity to feel safe, supported and able to thrive. Every parent deserves to know they don't have to face these challenges alone.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, struggling with anxiety or simply finding the pressures of modern family life difficult to navigate, Hypnotherapy may help you reconnect with a greater sense of calm, resilience and confidence. Looking after your own mental wellbeing isn't selfish—it's one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself and your family.
Together, by supporting both young people and the adults who care for them, we can help create a healthier future for the next generation.
Every person is unique, so I tailor each session to your individual needs and goals. Together, we can work towards helping you “feel calmer, live lighter” and become the best version of yourself.
I look forward to supporting you on your journey.

About me
Finding Strength in the Journey: My Story
For most of my life, I’ve carried a quiet heaviness—one shaped by personal struggles, unanswered questions, and the kind of heartache that leaves a lasting imprint. I’ve faced weight challenges, fertility issues, the upheaval of menopause, ongoing health concerns, grief that reshaped my world, and family issues that tested my resilience.
For a long time, these experiences felt like barriers—things that held me back, slowed me down, or made me feel “less than.” I often wondered why these difficulties kept showing up in my life… and why they seemed to pile on when I already felt stretched thin.
But something shifted.
When I began my hypnotherapy course, it was as though someone handed me a new lens to look through. Suddenly, my past wasn’t just a collection of painful chapters—it was a roadmap. Every challenge, every setback, every moment of doubt had a purpose. Instead of seeing my story as a burden, I began to see it as a foundation.
The course didn’t just teach me techniques—it helped me understand myself. It helped me unravel the patterns, soften the self-judgment, and rediscover parts of me I’d tucked away for years. Hypnotherapy gave me perspective. It allowed me to connect the dots between my experiences and my strengths.
Today, I can finally say this with confidence:
Everything I’ve been through has shaped me into the person I am meant to be.
My struggles have become my empathy.
My grief has become my compassion.
My challenges have become my motivation.
And my healing has become my purpose.
Now, instead of feeling held back by my past, I feel equipped by it. I understand the emotional weight people carry because I’ve carried it too. I know what it means to feel lost, overwhelmed, or stuck—and I also know what it feels like to rise again.
I’m here not just as someone who has studied healing, but as someone who has lived it.
If my journey can make someone else’s path a little lighter, a little clearer, or a little more hopeful, then every chapter of my story has been worth it.
This is only the beginning of a new chapter—one where I get to help others step into their own healing, just as I’ve stepped into mine.
And I’m grateful you’re here with me.
What is Hypnotherapy?
If you've ever wondered what Hypnotherapy is and whether it could help you, you're certainly not alone.
Many people are curious about Hypnotherapy but aren't quite sure what to expect. Some imagine stage hypnosis or worry about losing control, but the reality is very different.
Hypnotherapy is a gentle, relaxing therapy that works with the subconscious mind—the part of your mind that stores habits, beliefs, emotions, and automatic responses.
It can help create positive changes by allowing you to access a deeply relaxed state where your mind becomes more open to helpful suggestions and new ways of thinking.
Throughout our lives, experiences can shape how we think, feel, and react. Sometimes these patterns serve us well, but other times they can leave us feeling stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, lacking confidence, or struggling with habits we would like to change.
Hypnotherapy helps you reconnect with your inner strengths and resources, allowing you to move forward in a calmer, more positive way.
During a session, you remain aware, in control, and able to hear everything that is being said. Many people describe it as feeling similar to being completely absorbed in a good book, daydream, or that peaceful moment just before falling asleep.
Hypnotherapy can help with many different areas, including:
• Stress and anxiety
• Confidence and self-esteem
• Sleep difficulties
• Fears and phobias
• Motivation and focus
• Habits and behaviours
• Weight management
• Emotional wellbeing
• Menopause-related stress and overwhelm
As someone who has personally experienced challenges including health issues, fertility struggles, early menopause, grief and life's many ups and downs, I understand how difficult it can feel when things become overwhelming. My own journey has shown me just how powerful the mind can be and how positive change is possible, even when things seem difficult.
Every person is unique, which is why every hypnotherapy session is tailored to you, your experiences, and your goals.
Hypnotherapy is not about changing who you are. It's about helping you become the calmest, strongest, and most confident version of yourself.
If you're curious about whether hypnotherapy could help you, I offer a free, no-obligation consultation where we can have a friendly chat and explore your goals together.
You don't have to face things alone.
Sometimes the smallest step can be the beginning of the biggest change.

Taking the first step towards change can feel a little daunting, which is why I offer a warm, friendly and completely confidential initial consultation.
This relaxed conversation gives us the opportunity to get to know each other, talk about what you would like help with and discuss your goals.
It is also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about hypnotherapy and learn how it can support you.
There is no pressure and no obligation—just a supportive space where you can explore whether Hypnotherapy feels right for you.
This can be done, over the phone, video call or in person.
Even a single Hypnotherapy session can be a powerful step towards positive change.
Many people leave feeling deeply relaxed, calmer and more in control of their thoughts and emotions.
A session can help you gain a fresh perspective on a challenge, reduce feelings of stress and overwhelm, and strengthen your confidence and motivation.
While lasting change often benefits from a series of sessions, many clients notice improvements in their mindset, sleep, focus or emotional wellbeing after just one appointment.
A block of three Hypnotherapy sessions allows us the time to create deeper and more lasting positive change.
While many people experience benefits after a single session, a series of sessions gives us the opportunity to build on progress, reinforce new thought patterns and address the root causes of the challenges you may be facing.
Over the course of three sessions, we can work together to strengthen confidence, reduce stress and anxiety, improve emotional wellbeing, and help you develop healthier habits and coping strategies.
